Oklahoma City yard parking fines to increase Oklahoma City Council members voted Tuesday to increase the fine for parking in your yard from $10 on first offense to $100. BY BRYAN DEAN Oklahoman 2 Published: June 2, 2010 The penalty for parking in your yard is about to increase tenfold after Oklahoma City Council members voted Tuesday to stiffen the penalty. More InfoCouncil members voted to increase several fees Tuesday. They include permit and inspection fees; weed abatement and administration fees; and subdivision, zoning and board of adjustment fees. The increased fees are expected to raise $1.2 million. Advertisement The council first took up the issue last month, after staff members said the $10 fine on first offense wasn't enough to deter people from parking in their yards, a problem several council members said is far worse than it might seem. Ward 4 Councilman Pete White said people parking in their yards is one of the surest signs that a neighborhood is in decline. The previous rules called for a $50 fine on second offense, but city officials said staff often can't tell in the field whether a car has been ticketed before. Staff members suggested increasing the fine to $50, but council members weren't satisfied. They voted last month to up the fine to $100, or $125 if the fine isn't paid within 10 days. Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to give their final approval to the changes, which are expected to raise an additional $400,000 in revenue during the next fiscal year.
